    SMC Descending Rings

Hi Guy's, Hope you are all well !

I recently delved into the world of hanging and love it ! But I my problem is.....you guessed it... SMC Rings. I live in the U.K. and can track down plenty of U.S. sites with these elusive rings but they don't ship internationally, and if they do, they charge a fortune ! I need 8 rings for 2 hammocks. Could anyone help me out? I would be happy to Paypal them for rings and postage first. The rings I'm using at the moment are the welded type from a hardware store. The're not rated and I don't trust 'em........

Thanks guys and keep the info comming.....it's invaluable !

I'm also in the UK and also have the same problem. I feel like I'm starting a sting of emails all with the same request.

I've had good luck with weird supplies at my local construction safety supply house. They stock lots of cool harnesses and strapping. So, I googled it up in europe, uk, scotland.http://www.totalropesolutions.co.uk/productsafety.htm
give these folks a shout. My local shop is very helpful, and they will ussually cut and sew your straps for you. They had a bunch of different size rings, clips, buckles, etc. They actually build safety harnesses for iron workers, roofers, where life and death matter. Their supplies are top-notch.

Thanks to all you guys who replied and those who were able to help! It seems SMC would do well to place a distributor in the U.K Hé...Hé. Thanks for the link Gargoyle. It sure looks like a company like that could indeed help but maybe the gear wouldn't be as lightweight? I'll look into it though.

    See ya soon fella's !

My shop had rings of all sizes. Heres another site, and I dont think they would weigh too much.http://http://www.liftingsafety.co.u...inks-2426.html

Something else you might look for is a shop that sells technical mountaineering/rock climbing gear. I used to live in Scotland, and Graham Tiso's shop was always a good bet.

SMC isn't particularly necessary--you're looking for a rock climbing rappel ring. Usually rated to roughly 22 kN. SMC's just a popular brand because they're a little lighter than Omega Pacifics.

I use the Omega Pacifics, because they're what was available here.

adkpiper, did you use the newer omega pacific rings, the ones that are rather fat? if that's them i'm assumeing they work.

i'd think any climbing shop would have aluminium rap rings.
