    Ridgeline placement.

Forgive me if this is posted in wrong location, but I made a continuous ridgeline from a whoopie sling. The problem is that it is a little long still. Could I attach it to the actual carribeeners that attach to the slapstraps or does it need to be placed directly on the hammock?

Seems to me it should be ok on the Carabiners.

I gather you are talking about a structural ridgeline? If it's a whoopie sling, why is it not adjustable?
Slap straps stretch so once you have the hammock set with the ridgeline where you like it, it will slowly sag as the slap straps stretch. If you are installing a SRL to get a consistent hammock sag or even just to hold up a bugnet, it would be good to get some polyester webbing or other no stetch option for your suspension.

I believe you can attach it to the carabiners

It was a whoopie sling I had made that had an extra. So there is not any extra adjustment except to make it longer, which I do not need. That is why I was asking about the beiners. The term slap strap was just a generic term as I have the atlas straps which I love so there will be little stretch.

Thanks for input so far. I will try hooking from beiners and see what it gets me, unless someone knows a way of shortening the whoopie with out "redoing" it.

Anyone have a source for more amsteel as I might want to purchase some to make more whoopies as I am a scout master and the scouts are liking the hammock thing.

HYOH, put it where you want. Being on the beeners it might be a little high if you're gonna hang your things from it.

If you were gonna redo; You only have to redo the bury..... 14sec job if you have a $0.20 yarn needle. Mark where you want the maximum (say 80% of the total length) and enter there.

    Amsteel souces, RL photos?

A photo may be helpful. A structural ridgeline beyond the ends of you hammock will still be somewhat effective if that is what you are asking, not all hammocks need a RL.
www.Dutchwaregear.com may be able to sale you an entire spool of Amsteel, but there are other sources just Google it. If you need it fast try your local yacht and boating supply shops. I never buy more than 50' ($11) at once so Dutch and DIY SUPPLY etc are fine for my needs.

    www.westmarine.com
I think there is a West Marine near you, but it might be better to buy a 600 foot spool for about $100 elsewhere. There are at least a dozen useful things you can make from this and similar hollow core cordage.
Google.com site:hammockforums.net fid or splice tool

There are many good ones; I like the yarn needle or extra long upholstery needle but just a bent paper clip or some thin wire like what you buy to hang pictures will work. Splice away and come up with your own innovations.

    Fid option with a warning

Cheap upholstery needles from Hobby Lobby for $2.46 used as fids. 12" one can make an extremely long bury not necessary.

One Amsteel craft not often made is Soft Shackle which has pros and cons compared to carabiners.

These long needles may not be the best choice around a bunch of boys. They may become blow gun darts and all end up in the ceiling tiles. I find that bamboo BBQ skewers make much better darts for pesky squirrels but my neighbors get upset about all the fur in their rain gutters. Suburban life is just so restrictive.
