Tried outdoor camp.. Unprepared for weather

I've been hanging indoors for months now. Had a chance to do a night in northern Alberta on my way to visit my daughters. We were planning to camp while I was there. Prior to picking them up I figured I would set up my hammock and use a nemo bug out as a bugnet and set up a tarp.

    Insert storm weather
Gusts up to 90 km/h plus rain.

First off the buyout I had was a bit small for the application and the wind too crazy with the temps dropping to 9 Celsius not including rain and wind factoring in.

    Oh well.

Picked up the kids and camped in the kamparoo. I set up my hammock and didn't get to use it at all. My girls took it over. I forgot to bring extras.

Great time. Made me finish my bugnet (almost done) yesterday.

Looks like a great spot though! Next time you'll be ready.

It's funny, but the trips you end up talking and laughing about years later are NOT the ones where everything goes as planned.

The girls and I always have a great time. Great team and even better they feel comfortable in the bush roughing it. I'm sure they will embarrass some boys with lesser knowledge

O Canada, you're off the ground!

I hope to go all night in my hammock with my new DIY Apex 6.0 Underquilt. Couldn't finish inside at 66 degrees F (motion sick and cold) nor outside with a pad (cold).

No bug net yet, but no bugs yet here.

Well, I'm glad you got to test your setup before the girls had a bad experience. It sounds like they are natural hammockers and probably would have not seen it as an adverse situation, but more of an adventure. Carry on, Dad!

Ew.... The dreaded forgot to bring extras. I calculate all of my weights by a factor of three. One for me, two for my kids so I get to use my gear!

Sorry you had a rough trip man, that's what memories are made of though!

If every father could have the same problem....there would be little to no troubles in the good right world.
