    Western Mass AT questions

Hiking 50 miles from Conn. Into Western Mass on AT looking for any advice. Trip is Aug 5th-10th myself a brand new hanger and 2 ground dwellers. Depending on conditions looking to do around 10 miles per day could stretch for a great spot. Thanks for any help.

All kinds of places to hang through this section. You can aim for AT shelter areas if you want to hang with some hikers. They also typically have water. Or...just hang wherever your lands in the evening. Enjoy!

I just finished doing the first 12 miles from the CT border with a Philmont crew doing a shakedown hike. Both the glen brook shelter and the hemlock shelter are great for hanging. Though the Hemlock shelter is best for both.

Thanks for the insight Nighthauk. Hope the shakedown went well. As a newb, just trying to acquire as much info as I can. The site has been very helpful with my set up so I thought a little trip scouting would help as well, and it has. Looking forward to it. The only part of Mass I have seen is the Metro Boston area. Looking forward to a little exploring in western Mass.. thanks again

Lake it is Vastly different then your location. Our shakedown went extremely well. We covered about 11 miles over the weekend. Not a lot of mileage overall but it was a great time. The kids deal very well and we saw some areas that we need to change. Let me know when your in the area and if I can meet up with you I would be happy too.

Glad to hear your shakedown went well. Hiking with the kids must be rewarding and challenging. I have a 20 month old and am just beginning to understand. Would like to meet up if possible. Kind of a tight schedule I'll let you know what our plan is. Aug 5-10 are the hiking dates flying back to FL on the 11th.
