I think most people's idea of hammock-ing is the tied together rope deal that's either nailed to the tree or suspended from some type of metal frame. Way back when, my mom even had one in the back yard and yep, I remember nails. It's up to us to educate people that we're NOT doing that. And if they still don't understand, hopefully they'll allow us to show them. If not, it's usually easier to just find another place to hang. I also teach boy scouts in my troop and on camp outs. We stress LNT and what better way than to hang. I also get to teach outdoor leader training this fall and yes, even though I'll have a whole lot of different tents to show them. I'll have a few hammocks too!! I think education will be the ticket to being able to hang in some of the places that now have crazy ideas about damage to the area.
