Here I was all het up to pull my thread injector out of the corner and make that crucial mod. Oh well. My wife don't camp with me anyway so the point is moot from my perspective.

This is too great a forum to mess it up with

any explicit details but I'm going out on a limb and approach this logically.
A lot of us use the hammock for backpacking-where a lightweight hammock is key/essential.
Lightweight lends itself to increased damage from unwarranted activity/stessors/kinetic energy versus static...the activity in question is often warranted/desired/needed but personally if I do 12-15 miles on the AT that activity is far superceded by the need for water/food/sleep knowing another 15 miler awaits the next day.
This activity has been done but lets be smart about it. If you spend 150 and up for a lightweight hammock do you really want those huge added kinetic stresses on it for this activity in question? I need to rely on my hammock often night after night for rest; I am even paranoid about even small bounces in my hammocks.
But say the need for the unwarranted is there and cannot be avoided. If you are paddle camping a small tent takes up little room in a kayak and is a good backup plan if no suitable hammock sites can be found (like sand bars/beaches/etc.).....
If backpacking maybe true intimacy can't be had but you can hang two hammocks on 3 trees with one common tree allowing you to be close...in the same vain you can hang the single hammocks side by side just to be close.
It's already been mentioned that the hammock is a swing-let your imagination run wild here but why not save that for home or the pawleys island hammock in the backyard and save the precious HH or WB for its intended use?
Before the day is over you'll always find a mossy covered log!

This used to be referred to by Shadowmoss as "bouncy-bouncy" if I remember correctly.

well... logically... my wife would balk at the mossy covered log. No question about that. Nothing would put her off faster than bugs, mosquitos and blackflies.

I still maintain the fabric of the hammock is not the weak point, based on my hanging in a hammock with a hole the size of a quarter right where the stresses are the greatest. There has a been a lot of reference to the way the hammock resembles a waterbed in terms of its support. Perhaps there is some guidance there.

The original question was not about camping in a hammock as much as indulging in a hammock. The double hammocks I am familiar with are all top loaders with the exception of the HH Safari which is listed as being appropriate for couples who don't mind being close. Having had a Safari myself I would have a difficult time inviting my wife to share the space but maybet that's more a statement about how much space I take up by myself rather than the capacity of the hammock.

What about the Guardian bug net for example? Does that provide enough room when installed to allow the cuddle to move beyond to more explicit activity?

    Ohh, it can be done.

Think about it for a minute. There are tribes in central and south america that have spawned generations from their hammocks. I don't think there is any question as to if 'it' can be done or not.
