    First Time Hanger in GA

Hi All - I am a first time hanger in GA (the Douglasville area - about 15 miles west of Atlanta). I was wondering if anyone knows some good places to hang that has some short hikes, water & trees that aren't too close together. I'm barely 5 ft tall & have trouble getting my hammock high enough that I'm not practically lying on the ground lol.

    Thanks all!

Welcome from ITP! Besides Stone Mt campground, I'm not sure I would want to camp anywhere around ATL. Probably some places out your way I'd bet - I'm from the east side. I'm always driving about 2-3 hrs north to get somewhere worth hanging out a while, or where I can get a decent hike in. One of the best places to go that is a relatively short hike, and has plenty of good hanging spots, is Burrells Ford area on the Chatooga River - can't go wrong there, you can hike as much or as little as you like and pretty much be assured a great spot and good trees. Otherwise, hike the AT and you're bound to find a decent spot when needed.

I'm from Newnan and there are a few places relatively close by that you might be interested in. Chattahoochee Bend State Park isn't too far and is hammock friendly, especially in the walk-in (back country) campsites. I'm hoping to be there myself this coming weekend. The camping area at McIntosh Reserve across the Hooch from Chattahoochee Bend looks promising. Lots of hiking trails but camping is only in one area along the river. Not sure if they allow hammocks or not and I'm not sure how busy the campground gets. The Pine Mountain Trail is a little further away near Pine Mountain, Ga (Callaway Gardens area). Good hiking and hammock friendly.

Hey there! Georgia hanger also, but new as well. Most of my camping is with the Boy Scouts, so we're mostly in State Parks. I hung at Don Carter and it was great, although that might be a little far for you (up past Gainesville).

Sadly, gonna be spending all next week camping near Cheaha State Park, but there's no hammock allowed where I'm going (*sniff*)

    Welcome from Conyers, GA.

The Pine Mountain Trail in FDR St Park is beautiful, nearby and contains a nice trail system for hiking and camping.
"The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
    Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

i Would recommend my favorite hike in GA, Raburn Bald. Fire tower on top makes for a good hanging spot in summer and great views.
