Introducing the Arc Convertible Hammock Shelter!

Hi there! I'd like to finally unveil what I hope will become the latest and greatest in Hammock shelter systems. I call it simply the Arc.
The Arc is an all-weather, ultralight, convertible hammock shelter. Depending on the demands of the current environment, this shelter converts easily between two configurations, becoming either a hexagonal tarp, or a fully enclosed, ventilated, single wall tent system specifically designed for use with a hammock. Hope you guys enjoy!

This design is patent pending. I may be contacted for information by PM or by email at [email protected] , as well as on this forum, of course .

I have just watched the video, good effort bud. It does work out to be a hammock sock (singlewall tent affair) but I do like the idea that it is the tarp to start with. The tarp set-up looks a little too small for my liking (but then my go-to tarp is 3m x 4m and I can use the corners to make doors in bad weather). I look forward to seeing you put it into the wilds!

Excellent work! I LVE the vent! Does it have a pole over the ridge line? Is there another vent on the other side?

The whole thing looks like a fine piece of kit! Very creative!

I really like the additin of the windows for ventilation. From the video it looks a little tight, but seeing one in person may be different. I do like concept of it converting from a simple tarp to a enclosed sock.

It seems to me that you would get very wet entering and exiting when it is raining. Also, how easy is it to get into the hammock with it partially zipped up, as you only went part way in on the video??????

How long a ridgeline does it support? Would be good if it was over 3m. Maybe with just a synched up tube right up at each end to allow some variance.

It looks like a good solution if trying to minimise weight and not expecting much rain. But at the cost of not having a living/working area of any useful size.

Agree that you need to actually demonstrate getting in and sealing the unit back up, not just popping your head in.

Thanks for taking the time to share it.
Would be nice to have it a little longer to fit a bigger 11' hammock.

Very innovative thinking. Very well presented idea!

Interesting, you have given some serious thought to this and the idea of a vent hole is a nice detail. In the video, is that a full size model, because it seems a little short. Thanks for giving us preview.

You've obviously put a lot of thought into this. How much testing have you done? I suggest you spend 30 nights in it (tent mode) and evaluate for condensation issues. I like the placement of the vents near head and feet, but my experience with sock-tents suggests that the larger the internal volume the better a sock handles exhaled moisture - and that's with very breathable Pertex fabrics or ripstop nylon. You might look at Hangnout's Dirigibles - he uses breathable cuben fiber and is well aware of the engineering challenges presented by small waterproof shelters. A significantly larger version of the Arc made with breathable cuben might handle moisture better and be easier to get in and out of. Good luck!
