How to do Lashings on Military Surplus Aluminum Poles?

I'm working on one of the Stands similar to the one that gmcttr built, with Military Surplus Aluminum Poles.

I've done the Lashing with Paracord, and it doesn't seem to be holding well. It wants to slip on the painted surface of the poles.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Place the lashing at the top on the connector pins and the larger diameter tube keeps it from sliding.

Hmm. I'll have to try that when re-lashing. Also going to put some duct tape on there so the rope has something to bite into.

My poles are a little bit different than yours. I do not have the lengthwise lines/bars on it that yours does. I wonder if that makes it harder for the rope to get a hold.

I have never tried lashing on the tube as I would expect it would tend to slip. I've always had the lashing on the connector pins (where it belongs ).

That is how I lashed mine and it works great. Inspect them every time before use.

    Yes I have two ideas.
Maybe you can add two bumps to each pole, a bump below and a bump above the lashing.
The bumps might be made of epoxy or even welded bumps

    Oops hit send
Second idea is the Scout style lashing. I believe the Indian tipi tripod lashing is much more secure. The way the poles are placed they kind of lock together. Pictures and detailed explanation can be found in The Indian Tipi by Reginald & Gladys Laubin on page 45 and page 46. This is time tested over thousands of years. Good luck from a fellow Scout

    Indian tipi tripod lashing
Put two poles side by side on the ground just like your first two fingers extended pointing
Then lay a third pole on top of the first two poles at an angle of 30 to 40 degrees. Tie all three poles together, no FRAPPING, using a secure knot and continue after the knot with 3 continuous wraps around all. 3 poles(your knot will be around the poles the same way as the 3 continuous wraps. This should be tight but not too tight because now you lift the top of your tripod off the ground and swing what was the bottom pole that was leftmost around towards the front thus locking this all together. For a tipi the excess rope is wrapped around a pole and staked to the ground. But the extra rope on a tripod would be knotted around a pole and trimmed. Sorry for the excess words. When you see the picture and try it you will see how simple fast and effective this is

Also para cord might stretch too much, maybe use other rope.
