    Algonquin Park, Ontario weekend trip

Did a two night trip last weekend paddling into a beautiful big lake where I spent the same weekend last year. Last year it poured, this year was gorgeous, but always a good time in the beauty.
Saturday morning the lake was glass and the temps were balmy.

Ridgerunner with Lynx under quilt under Cloudburst tarp. I tried out my new Hammock Gear 20F top quilt. Glad I had it as it got down to 3C (mid-high 30s F?) the first night. Sorry I don't have a pic, but she's a beauty---extra wide, with a little overfill near my feet.

Beautiful! Algonquin was always on my to-hang list, used to drive past it (well.. almost) on the way from Toronto to my ex' hometown (just now that I don't have a Canadian gf anymore I don't get to go over there as much..)

It's about as far from Georgia as you can get!

I've never been to the Adirondacks, but I imagine it is similar to Algonquin, with higher hills, and certainly a lot closer to you! Better to go there first, before driving another 4-5 hours, I'd say.

Great trip report and pics as always. Actually I think this might be the first time you turned the camera around for some selfies. Question: do you have a clip on yoke to portage that canoe?

I was a big believer in internet anonymity until my employer decided we all had to have our pictures and names on the company website! Now the jig is up. That said, don't expect a flood of narcissistic beauty shots. The lines and shapes of the bush, the lake, the sky, and the canoe are far more interesting than my face.

Yes, the outfitter supplies a yoke that clamps to the gunwales. If it's a long distance to the next portage, I remove it. If it's just a couple of hundred metres across a small lake, I slide it back and clamp it next to the thwart behind the seat.

You're in Kingston. Do you ever paddle in Algonquin, or Frontenac?

I did an overnight hike in Frontenac yesterday. I will be making a couple trips to Algonquin over the summer and fall. Also the family is going to do part of the big gull lake loop in north Frontenac in a few weeks.

Beautiful photos and you certainly had some lovely weather. Algonquin Park is a special place. My wife and I will be hiking the small loop of the Western Uplands Trail starting the third week of July. It will be a relaxed pace spread over four days. The entire family was at Achray Campground over the Victoria Day weekend for day hikes and a little canoeing. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

I will be taking my nine-year old daughter to Frontenac Provincial Park this coming Saturday for a four day backpacking hike. This will be her first backpacking trip and I am looking forward to it - although my pack will be rather heavy as I am not expecting my daughter to carry much.

    Cheers
