Hello from Toronto, ON

Hello All!

I have already posted a few questions in other threads but I suppose I should have posted here first!

I live in Toronto, On, Canada. I spend most of my time in Algonquin and Kilarney Provincial Parks as well as the Temagami area portaging and trying to get as far away from civilization and cell phone service as possible.

I have tent camped all my life but a few months ago my fiance bought me a hammock for when she comes with me (she likes to relax a little more, I like to travel and see as much water as possible). After an afternon nap, I was sold!

I found an awesome member on here who sold me an UQ shell and some repurposed down as well as a few pieces of suspension. I got in touch with Marty at Wilderness Logics and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of a Lite Owl!


Cannot say how grateful I am to Jeremy (Octo), Marty (WL) and the others who have been so kind with their advice and guidance over the last month; you guys and gals really are an awesome community and I hope I can actually contribute something useful sometime as payback. At the very least I'll post a few videos of my first set ups so everyone can have a good laugh!

Hello Marcus and welcome. Quite an active group here in Ontario (called the EGL-Eastern Great Lakes) that gets together several times a years. Six of us were just in Algonquin a couple of weeks ago. haha ya I stayed quite and just lurked around for a month. I will send you pictures and my sewing handywork when I get my underquilt finished! Just waiting for the delivery!

You'll find that the guys and gals here at HF are a pretty amazing group. As Bubba pointed out, if you're interested in getting together with other HF members, keep an eye on the trip planning forums and/or the EGL notification thread. It's always nice to meet new faces. We've managed an annual early winter hang for the last couple of years as well. It's a great chance to get out and test your gear in a forgiving location (re: heated washrooms!).
