How well did I score? GREAT, good, or meh...

So I just picked up a queen size down comforter, sterilized white duck down, minimum 75% down. Total cost.... $10. Hope to one day turn it into TQ and UQ..... Still working on finishing up my tarp, a diygearsupply winter tarp style out of black 1.1 sil and having just finished up my DL DIY gathered end hammock with diy whoopie slings and bought tree straps. Need to make my whoopie sling-adjustable SRL and figure what I'm gonna use for tarp ridgeline/suspension and guy lines. I've got some braided mason's line I was gonna use for ridgeline and guy lines, but I'm not sure after reading some of the opinions about it.

So, is the down fill from the comforter for $10 a steal, or did I just blow $10?

I am Jelly, I would like to try diy down but im broke and the down sleeping bags on sierra are too much easier for less money than buying cottage or sourcing down then sewing for me.

I have found down sleeping bag hunting thru good will. I got a nice 40 degree quilt and a nice Mountain hardware. So any way you can find a deal on down is a good.

It's probably a pretty good deal for what you paid, but you get what you pay for. 75% fill means it's probably got a ton of feathers and is probably under 500fp rating. But if weight is not a concern, you probably cant go wrong with $10

So I'm guessing there's no great way to separate the feathers from the down?

You can make some car camping quilts, but I wouldn't plan on light weight backpacking stuff. Since it's not rated fill, experience will tell you what the temp rating will be.
