Dude! Again, that is so freaking awesome!!
Dude! Again, that is so freaking awesome!!
Thanks guys It was quite a bit of work, but the materials were paid for by the festival, and I got a little bit of money as well.
@lazyriver I just sent an email to Lockn' people a couple hours ago to see about building a dome to put up for them. I also contacted Phases of the Moon, Hulaween, and one other I can't remember right now. Got my fingers crossed!
@frogpockets I actually got started with one of those tripod stands. I wanted a way to hammock camp @ bonnaroo last year so I built 2 turtledog stands using just wood, cord, & 10ft conduit. Tarped over it & it worked out great! But when I was walking around I spotted a small dome with like 8 hammocks in it. I thought 'thats exactly what I've been looking for!'. Looked it up on the internet and had a small dome built by the next week. I've now dome-camped over 10 festivals since then. They always draw a lot of attention, I get to meet some great people!
I love it! very cool. How long does it take to set it up?
...Tell me no lies, make me a happy man ...
Well hopefully lockn' contacts you and you get the gig and if so Def give me a heads up so I can keep a look out for you. Did the festival also provide the hammocks or did people bring them themselves.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
@HanginTough Setup time is around 2 hours so far, probably can get it to an hour and a half once I get more practice with that size/configuration of a dome.
@lazyriverroad just found out I'll be going to Phases of the Moon Fest with a hammock vendor to help them setup some smaller domes - might be able to bring a bigger dome by then I'll see.
That dome is awesome! How wide is it at the base? I see you put a limit on the number of hammocks at 26. Was that a pushing the envelope number? Would you have been more comfortable with, say 20 hammocks/people? You did an fantastic job, congrats.
If I was in a place I could more easily control people climbing on it, I'd be comfortable at 26. At the fest, I never knew when 5 people were just gonna run up and jump on the thing, and it could take me as long as a minute before I'd be able to fight past people and go get them down(it was packed at the show).
Its a 22ft diameter dome, 13ft high
Unbelievable.
Pretty sweet, dude.
R. Buckminster Fuller would be proud.
