    Tieing the ends of hammock

Hay all new to hammocking and the forum. Im making a 2 layer ripstop hammock. on the ends of the hammock where you connect it to ropes that connect to the trees ive noticed that many people gather the ends together and tie it off. Would Sowing a channel for the rope to go through like on eno hammocks hold the weight ok.

Jx, there was a discussion about this just a few weeks ago. Youll need to run several rows of stitching. Ill see if I can find the thread...

    And welcome to HF.

IMHO, it's much easier to just gather the ends and put a double sheet bend. No worrying if your stitching will hold or not, just a nice simple solid knot.

In ALL my experience (of one queen size sheet that I tied up in the lounge for the lads to try) I came across the following which were too easy not to try.

    With Plain old Rope

    With Webbing

Both worked well and held during all our little tests.

Does the means by which you attach the cord to the hammock affect your ability to control folds and/or edge tension? It just seems like it would be a bit more difficult to control those with some of the connection suggestions.

It does, especially if you use the end channel. Using any kind of whipping easily allows you to put in W-folds, pull out the ends, etc. It's a little more involved to do that with a double-sheetbend but can still be done. But the end channel hammock's I've used (except the one I made with stretchy fabric) have been pretty comfortable as they were.

IMO, putting in a sewn channel where you don't "need" one introduces another possible point of failure...I like the KISS principle. JMHO - plenty of end channel hammocks work and are very comfortable.

One thing I've been thinking about is... if you use an end channel, then you can cut the ends slightly full (the way I suspect a SB is made) and you won't mess up that shaped effect by whipping the ends.

I'm glad this thread came up, I'm about to do my first REAL DIY.

What I'm not clear on is how the structural ridgeline in tied in.

Isn't the ridgeline an adjusted length of line (that controls sag) with
2 knots 3-5" apart at each end with the whipping and lark’s head between the knots?
If I use a "channeled end" this ridgeline just lays in the middle with the end channel mass
    wrapped around it...right?

Regardless of the end gathering method the ridge line is a separate line in the middle
With the whipping and tie-out between the knots...right?

I guess I’m just thick! But I want to be sure before I learn another expensive lesson. 
All my materials have arrived for a number of projects so now it’s me against the Thread Injector!

There are a few ways to do a ridgeline. For mine, I just tie a loop on one end of the ridgeline and run the hammock support thru it. You can do the same thing on the other side, or you can just lash the ridgeline to the hammock support on that end so it's adjustable.

A couple of mediocre pics of it here:
