Greetings everyone,
I've been lurking here on the Hammock Forums for roughly a year and I've found this site to be invaluable.
I was first exposed hammocks through an ENO hammock that a friend brought on a trip in addition to his tent just to relax in. My girlfriend later purchased the ENO DN for campsite relaxing but not to sleep in until we shared a campsite on the C&O canal trail one night with a man using a Hennessy hammock. He was great to talk with and demonstrated his awesome descender ring suspension and snakeskin setup. Most importantly, he told me about the Hammock Forums!
I quickly ditched the heavy ENO suspension for a whoopie sling configuration from JRB with Dutch hardware. I outfitted the ENO DN with the ENO bug net and the ENO Profly tarp (I knew what I was getting into by continuing to invest in the ENO but I found really good bargains and was able to get the pieces quickly). Last winter I picked up an HG UQ (you can see I've been your posts ) and the ENO Housefly tarp and spent the night suspended above 9 inches of snow; I was the only hammock and definitely the warmest/most comfortable.
The lady and I have spent a couple of nights together in the ENO DN and as anyone can tell you it is only its really not practical. This year we upgraded to a Clark Vertex which is currently en route to my house. I'll continue to use the ENO DN when I'm flying solo. I've sourced a whoopie sling suspension for the Vertex from Dutchware; this, of course, arrived well ahead of the hammock. I've got the Vertex tarp coming also but this may get replaced with my Housefly tarp or an upgraded tarp TBD.
A big thanks to all of the active members here on the Hammock Forums, you're doing everyone a great service by sharing your experiences and techniques. I'm looking forward to what the future holds and hope my camp-outs evolve into hang-outs
Happy hangin,
Dave
