I have been looking at a 50 degree topquilt for summer use in ga from ugq. Is there any disadvantage to using the 700 fill other than an extra 1 oz in my pack that I should be aware of?

If the extra weight is not an issue I recommend going with the 700. I have 700 duck down in my UGQ Flight Jacket and Zeppelin and love them. They compress great and retain warmth exceptionally. I have no complaints about them and do not mind the extra ounces.
That's great news. Thanks for the replies. I have been trying to get lighter gear, but the 50 degree tq with 700 weighing only 1 oz extra is fine. I will be using it with a 3/4 40 degree uq in the summer. So both together will be less than 2 pounds. I think maybe it is more important to have the higher fill down for the winter quilts.
Personally in a 50*TQ the weight difference is not that great so saving a few bucks here makes little difference on the final weight of the quilt. Now when you move into colder weather gear 20* and 0* the weight differences start to grow but so does the cost difference as well. At that point the decision is more related to your intend use, dedicated backpacking 850 would be our recommendation. Car camping, moto camping, paddle camping 700 would be just fine, both will keep you warm...
that makes sense. I'll plan on ordering the quilt towards the end of the month. I do a good amount of car camping because of my astronomy interest, but also take a few long distance hiking trips, with thoughts of doing a longer hike some day. thanks for the help.
