First time out in the piney woods

Finally got around to getting out into the woods. Have a few days off this weekend so I headed up to Otter River State Forest. I've camped outside before with my hammock but never a wooded environment. I also get to try out a bunch of new gear.

Setup is a BIAS WW, with whoopies (might swap them out for webbing and buckles), poncho liner UQ/TQ, WL Tadpole set up and in porch mode thanks to Shug's videos

And I had to toss on the buginator as the mosquitos started to show up. Anyone know of an easy way to take fronkey style nets on and off so I can sit in the hammock without it?

Nice. Looks like you have some restrictions on gathering firewood there. That style of bugnet can be a bit of a pain to put on and take off, but it's worth the effort when the biteys are about.

The only way I know of easily moving a Fronkey-style bug net off the hammock is with a mod where you make the hole that the suspension passes through large enough that the net will slide over the hammock and underquilt to the suspension on the other side of the hammock, and using shock cord and cord lock to cinch up the hole when the bugnet is deployed over the hammock. I'm experimenting with a version of this bug net: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...tatched-Bugnet
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Why are you swapping out the whoopies?

I might go back to straps because they seemed easier and quicker to get set up. I do like the weight of the whoopies.

I made an end which velcros together. Just have to be mindful of the netting.

Thanks for sharing this design. I just got back from Walmart where I bought 7 yards of something that looks like it could make a mossy/no-see-um net. So I come to HF and see your plans. Good timing. I bought it without having a plan other than throwing something together for this coming Friday. It's not 60 inch fabric so will have to connect the sections without sewing. Should be interesting. Clothes pins? LOL I don't know, somehow I'll get it done. The fabric cost under $7.00 total so that matches my price range of $25 for the Equip hammock. Still need a tarp. i love your rock pockets!

It ended up getting about 10-15 degrees colder than what was forecasted. It got down into the low 40s means that my poncho liner UQ wasn't able to hold up. I had to bail into a friend's tent due to CBS. I tried to augment the UQ with a fleece blanket i had in my car to no avail. Guess I will be investing in better insulation soon. Very good learning experience though.
