I am looking for a 2 person tent (very light) so that I can start overnighting with just myself and 7yo son overnight.

He is not ready for a hammock yet.

Where is another good place to search? (besides ebay and craigslist)
Why can't a seven year old sleep in a hammock? You could hang it right over your hammock.

And, this is probably the best place to look for a cheap light tent since we have all converted to hammocks.

Great point on looking here for tents. I tried to convert my son, but he's just not wanting to yet. He likes the confines of a tent. He's 10 and I'm still working on him. Once he's out of cub scouts (next year) and sees how most boy scouts are using hammocks these days, he'll convert easily.

This may seem a bit different, but, if you have a large enough tarp you could get a single person net tent and put it under your tarp right next too your hammock? As long as your tarp is large enough to give adequate coverage in a storm and not interfere with the hammock and net tent you'd be set! Just an option/opinion.

He has tried mine, but is nervous. Something he will grow out of. Also, I cannot carry another whole sleep system for him. My pack is only so big, and my son, lets say, need to build up some strength, so he can only carry so much. This is why I am looking for one sleep system for the two of us.

This is an idea.....net tents are usually pretty light. I'll look into this one.

Anyone here want to part with a 4 season tent for 3 people for high quality hammock gear, or know anyone that's on fence about trading that I could message, I'm looking at mountain hardwear, big agnes, or north face or some other reputable tent maker.

See post #10. Would trade for mirror image (head right, feet left) WB XLC DL + winter cover + full length winter Lynx UQ.

Would a simple bivy bag and pad under your tarp work? Can't get much smaller/lighter than that.

Could you use the hammock and go to ground with both of you in it. The only extra gear would be a pad and bag for him.

If you have a tent to sell, post up. Otherwise the rest of this discussion and suggestions needs to be in a another thread in another forum. Thanks

    OK
I have this tent, used one night and is like brand new. Great tent but I went to something a bit bigger with two entries/exits. The Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight 2 is super easy/fast to set up with two pole's and free standing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B8jjRYOJcM
Would really like to trade for a WB Ridge Runner or would sell outright.

PM me for more details if interested.
