Night sliding and a slippery suspension?

You’ll have to forgive me if I’ve missed this someplace. I hung my hammock out back for the first time last night. I used tree straps and the paracord that came with my hammock. I did a larks head on the tree strap and slipped my paracord from the end of the hammock over the knots.

It was fantastic and I slept better than I do in bed, but by morning my butt was on the ground. I’ve looked at my knots and my placement on the trees and I honestly can not figure out what slipped. When I stand the hammock is hanging about 6” below where it was at set up and when inside ridgeline of more loose.

Any hints at where to look?

Para cord is your problem. It is very stretchy. I have found replacing it with amsteel to be a very good (and necessary) switch.

Paracord + hammock equal butt on the ground - it stretches. Not to mention the fact that 550 paracord is not remotely sufficient from a 5 to 1 or even a 3 to 1 safety ratio.

Look into 7/64 Amsteel whoopie slings. And if your tree straps are nylon, dump them too and get polyester tree straps.

What kind of hammock do you have?

Looks like a straight-up Chinese ENO knockoff. Good price at $16 on Amazon but I'm sure the suspension is a joke at that price.

There's something extremely funny (maybe ironic?) about a Chinese knockoff of a Chinese hammock.

I'm sure it is. It is a thicker para, but it makes sicne that it's stretching since I see no knots slipping and no sliding at the trees.

Maybe a fair idea to to a lark's head at the end of the hammock in leau of the build in suspension?

Look into a proper Big-Boy suspension like you'll find here:

I splice all my own Amsteel so I don't pay the retail price. I just pay for the Dutch Ti.

Tricky, editing in jokes and making me do a double take before laughing my butt off.
