    Simple Mods....

so i've been wanting to start this thread for awhile and just now getting around to it.....

but anyways here are some very simple mods i've done to some of my gear, all very easy and inexpensive and been quite handy for myself and the way i camp

thought some of these might give others some ideas and if everyone wants to post theirs and add to the thread that would be great, sometimes it seems the simplest things are the best

first one is my tyvek mat for my hammock, lots of people use something like tyvek for a mat, i just went a step farther and sewed 2 pieces together and left one end open so that if it starts to rain and i need to keep some gear dry i can just throw it in the tyvek sack and fold it over to keep whatever dry

here i added a bale handle to my heiny pot, i took a thin metal fishing leader, cut the swivels off both ends but left the part where the leader was looped and attached back on itself, at that point i bent it 90° and jb welded both ends to opposites sides of the pot, works great!

here it is with a silicone band over the top for a lip guard

next is to simply wrap some paracord around the top of your hatched handle to help protect it

on my snow peak 900 i used sugru for the lip guard since it was too big around for any slicone bands i could find

i wanted to be able to get the ridgeline completely out of the way when sitting in my wbbb but still wanted it for sleeping, i measured everything then took another piece of amsteel the right lenght, cut he ridgeling looped the cut ends, larks headed one end of the splice piece to one end and used a dutch biner to attach the other end, now i can easily undo the biner and drop the rideline out of my way and hook it back up just as easy

this is how i keep my stakes, this one is courtesy of paul at ugq, i stole this idea from him

it's a simple square of ripstop with a velcro piece sewed to one corner, you simply set your stakes in the middle, fold over the bottom and then the corners, roll up and secure the velcro

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=88240&d=1403567461[/IMG]]

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=88241&d=1403567486[/IMG]]

here i added small buckle to the pullout on the zipper side of my wbbb so that i could just reach out the hammock and unclip the buckle so i can throw the bug netting back, most the time i have my stake too far away from my hammock to reach it and this helps

if anyone would like to add their own simple mods for gear please do so

Wow, Boothill! You hit a homer with every one of those.

I love that quick disconnect on the WB tie out. Fantastic idea as well as the Ridgeline... I intend to copy much of this so thanks for sharing... soon as I have an original thought, I will post here as well...
    Thanks!

I recently bought a pair of reproduction Viet Nam era jungle fatigue trousers to use as hiking pants (when you find something that works, stick with it). I removed the drawstring at the cuff and replaced it with shock cord and a cord lock.

Then there's the Pawn Bags in my signature line---

Installed the quick disconnect on the XLC today. Will come in handy.
Often I will unhook one mitten hook and clip it to the line but I like having this option as well.

Nice ideas. Looks like it's time for you to start splicing Amsteel instead of using knots.
