Hello Fellow Hangers,
It seems that many people use whoopies with a marlin spike hitch. So the question is why? What advantage does using a marlin spike hitch give you? Thanks in advance for all the replies.

It gives you another point of adjustability by choosing where along the tree hugger to attach your whoopie (or UCR).
Second, it allows you to pack your wet, sap laden tree huggers separately from your hammock.

I concur with all the above. Quick to tie and I use it for my tarp guy lines as well.

This is the system I plan on using for my first setup.. It just seems simple.
Apeman, the marlin spike hitch allows an adjustable connection point anywhere along the webbing. And as Rain Man said, it is easy to tie but more importantly, it is easy to untie.
Two words..."infinite adjustability".

Basically a slip knot.. Besides what has been said , I also use it to create the v in my r.l. When using my Dutch hook on one end and wasp on the other.. Bring the hook around to where needed, make the msh and clip it to it.. Presto..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
Apeman1470,
The Marlin Spike Hitch is the hammocker secret password. Tie a MSH and your in.
