    Oregonian says hello

What's going on guys! Seriously this is a rad site I've been lurking for quite some time. After a few weeks of sleepless nights, a couple hundred dollars, some gear sales on ebay, and lots and lots of diy and research I think I'm actually ready to hammock on the trail. Who wants to go backpacking? I'm doing the 3 sisters this week with my eskie pup and I'm a California native so this state is all new to me, so very exciting. If anyone has any advice for some really rad spots in the Pacific Northwest or wants to meet up for some backpacking that would be much appreciated as I have no friends this far North, hah. You know your forum is rad when you've got me posting on it I usually wouldn't touch one of these with a 50' foot pole! Thanks again to all the cottage vendors, pictorialists, adventurers, inventors, and hammockforum members for your insightful, and most importantly drama free, posts. Good times.

I'm planning to do a day trip of 10-15 miles this Sunday (6/29/14) with my brother but haven't really pinned down where I'm going yet. If you want to join us, let me know. I'm just west of Eugene.

Where were you planning to go in the Three Sisters area? A lot of it is still under snow AFAIK. I'm headed up to Willamette Pass on Saturday to show my wife where to pick me up after a 75-miler I'm doing in a month (PCT OR section E, SOBO) so I'll be able to gauge the snow level there. I might even make a big day of it and hit McKenzie Pass early in the morning just to get an idea of what it's like there as well. Everything in that area is just opening up I believe.

You might want to consider joining the Oregon Summer Hang in late August - I'll be there as well.

Also, check out my blog in my sig - it covers a number of great trails I've hit over the last 9 months.

Oh, and welcome to the site!

Welcome to our group and Oregon, you are going to like it. Just a word of warning, many of us become gear addicts. Yup, we discover there are a lot of choices, even if we studied our options and thought everything through very carefully. Once we started Hanging around we found our needs changed.

I carefully considered my options, selected what I thought would be my best choice in a rig. Guess what after a few Hangs, I discovered I really disliked my gear. It was too big, difficult to exit from, made me feel claustrophobic, the colors were too dark. Oregon's grey days just kill me anyway (yes, I lived here during my childhood). However as an adult I lived in places where the sun shines most of the year (might be very cold, but the sun shines).

Now, you have been officially warned that Hanging can and is addictive to many people. Many of us are gear hoarders.

Look forward to meeting you in person. Oh, have you acquired a dog yet? Preferably a large dog that shakes water all over everything, that is part of being an Oregonian for many of us.
