Camping Help around Lake Superior

I've camped at Split Rock as well (although not in a hammock). It is a beautiful place with a variety of campsites available and a reasonable distance between them. Difficult to get into though unless you plan ahead.

Spent 4 days on those lakes and saw some killer waves, plus the water was bone cold; the air temp was low 70s (so we lived in our dry suits) with a wee bit below freezing at night--NO BUGS, 2-3rd week of September so no college kids either

Well I made the trip and had a great time.

I learned a lot about hammock camping. Mostly by trial and error. But I will have to say that the design and setup of the Blackbird made it simple and enjoyable, I could not be more pleased with it.

By the third night I barley even woke up when it started raining, I was that comfortable. And this was the night that I set up quickly and did not bother to adjust the hammock once I hung it. I just eyeballed it and hung it up.

The main lesson that I learned that night was to adjust your hammock BEFORE you put your pad, sleeping bag, extra cloths in the footbox and storage area, and hung your rain gear on the ridge line. But hey without a little adventure I would have still been in my back yard.

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips on selecting a hammock. I didn't do as much hiking as I am sure most of you would, but my goal was to be outside, ride, camp, fish and have fun.

Nope, no swimming, but I have done plenty of diving in Northern Ohio is similarly cold water.

I did see some kids playing in the water in Sleeping Giant.

Lake of the Clouds, Porcupine Mountains State Park (near Ontanogan)
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (near Munising)
Tahquamenon Falls State Park (near Emerson)

All awesome places in Michigan's UP. Plenty of spots to hang out for the night!
