It seems that I have stumbled upon a new way to spend my money and time.
I grew up in the Boy Scouts and had a blast camping. I have occasionally gone with the family since then. I am married now, with two little ones, and have been wanting to get into hiking and backpacking and all that it entails. As I am at the store, one of the employees asks me if I have thought of using a hammock. I am a pretty big guy (265 lbs), so I was initially turned off to the idea. I then learned that a lot of the hammocks have a 400lb weight limit. So began the tailspin into hanging.
I bought a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro from Cabelas, along with a cheap plastic tarp, and went into the woods last Friday night. It was my first over-nighter in years, and my first ever alone. I slept on the shore of Beaver Lake up here in North West Arkansas. It is quite warm and humid right now, but I didn't know if it would get cold at night (I grew up in Utah, and it gets very cold at night). So I took a couple blankets with me. I didn't need either if them. The bug net was very nice though.
I am excited to have "fallen" into this community, I already plan on making some mods to my hammock, and will probably attempt a GrizzBridge as some point. Thank you so much for providing some great insight and experiences with everybody.
