Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, quick overnight

    IMG_1215.jpg

Quick overnight at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (no time, alas, for another run to North Manitou Island). A few miles in along Lake Michigan lakeshore from the Platte River campground, overnight at White Pine Backcountry campground (six primitive sites, a pit toilet, a nice shiny new bear box), then out a few miles to the Bass Lake trail head.

Shown in porch mode without doors. Heavy weather moved through several hours later, used the doors and buttoned up. Lots of wind, little bit of rain, no worries under the mamajamba. White Pine is nestled between two ridges, so the weather mostly made a lot of noise going overhead. . . .

Looking good! Nice, simple, clean camp. That's how I roll

I've been in the area but never to Sleeping Bear.

Traverse City is my home town, in to see family and vacation. The national lakeshore is about 25 miles away.
