The deed has been done. First Quilt Order

So, just did the deed and put the order in for my college graduation present to myself.

Spent a lot of time contemplating which quilt set to get but because this is going to be my go-to for a while I wanted something that was the most versatile and covered all my needs. Went back and forth between 3/4 and full but eventually came to the conclusion I wanted full. A lot of full length owners said that of all the quilts they own, their incubator is the one they would hold onto till the very end.

So my order is as follows:

20* Burrow, standard length, wide, snap closed, +1oz overstuff. Woodland Camo exterior/titanium gray interior

20* Incubator, standard length, +1oz overstuff. Woodland Camo

Really looking forward to using these quilts.

When the budget allows it, I'll be interested in acquiring a lighter, hot weather, set-up. I didn't order that now because it was too environment specific and I'll be doing three-season camping for the next few years. I feel the burrow and incubator are going to be great "beginner" quilts and will also be a great introduction as I go down this path of quilt education.

I'll be using the quilts on a few thru-hikes over the next couple years. I took a weight penalty (about 6oz) on going full length, but I know that at the end of the day of heavy mileage days, I like quick, easy, and comfortable sleep all night. No fiddle factor. I'll add it to my list of luxury items. My base weight is still under 12.5lbs for cold weather with the predicted weights of the quilts.

I'm happy. I'll keep you posted on how my order plays out.

    Regards,
    Fastfox

Hijack thread: BroChaos…I just did an overnighter at approx 10,000 ft on the north side of Pikes Peak 2 weeks ago. It got down to the high 30's low 40's at night.

Fastofx: Congrats. I'm still wearing my eyes out looking at the different UQ's. Gotta make a decision sooooooon.

Nearly the same here except I went for a 0* Phincubator instead but the almost same top quilt. It's a wide 20* standard length. Love these things, just have to get some photos up.

Awesome stuff! Had my 20° +1oz Incubator down to 3° this past winter...didn't even get cool (even though I was in a nervous sweat from pushing gear that hard!)

Awesome to hear that. I can't wait to test mine and see how low I'm comfortable in it. I plan on using it for an early AT thru hike start. Possibly February. I know the nights can become single digits. If I'm cold, which I expect I will be, I'm going to supplement with down booties, a down hoody, and a pad under my torso. We will see, that's the thought right now.

Yes, definitely be prepared for some supplemental warmth. I had my down jacket and torso pad, but ended up not needing them. BTW I had another trip this same winter and another low was 7°. Didn't wake once during the night so I'm pretty confident it wasn't a one-time fluke.

But if I was doing a lot more winter camping, a 0° would be on my list for peace of mind.

Just wanted to give an update. Quilts ordered July 2nd and no update yet. Patiently waiting and it hasn't even been two full weeks yet. I'm hoping they're done soon and ship out this week or next. I'll update again when they ship.

    Regards

Sadly, you have started down the road to HG Madness. MADNESS, I SAY!

I, too started out with "just 1 Incubator". I thought I could say "NO" anytime I wished. But then I decided I needed (as opposed to wanted) a 20 deg Burrow. And then a 50 deg Burrow. And a 0 deg Incubator. And then a 40 deg Burrow.

As I type this I an waiting for the postman to bring a 40 deg Incubator.

Luckily I am divorced, so I have no higher powerr to answer to.

    Jim
