Quick question from a insulation noob

    Hey all,
just got my new hammock gear 20* incubator in the mail today and already love it. I feel like i remember reading somewhere that long term storage in a stuff sack is bad for the quilts (not sure why, or if its even true). So if someone could please elaborate on this (or just tell me i'm wrong) and give me some advice how to store it i would much appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Typically for down items, it's good to store them uncompressed. Long term compression can affect the down's lofting ability which is important for trapping the warm air. Some people hang their quilts. If space in your home is an issue, some people use large storage totes or larger cotton sacks.

Correct, storing a quilt compressed long term will reduce it's ability to fully loft and keep you warm. This is true for any type of insulation. The fine fibers that trap the warmth from your body heat break down and loose structure with hard and extended compression. A few days here and there...while on trips, traveling, and pre-trip are not to bad and should not be a major issue, but extended periods of time like a week or two of constant compression or longer will start to have an effect.
