Good Evening,

I was playing with my new eno this weekend…I have a question with getting the tension of the straps once your done hanging around… If I'm going to be sleeping in this I'd like to be pretty high up(coyotes)… This only down side to trowing my straps up high is getting them back down once they are tight around the tree and I can't reach them to release the tension from hanging on it….

Does anyone have a trick to this or are you just putting your straps as high as you can reach and calling it good?

Also what are the thoughts on the ridge lines?

Welcome. I'm really of no help on the strap trick as I've never hung mine higher than I can reach. Though you might try standing on a rock or a log near your campsite. That won't work every time, so I'd just call it good otherwise.

I have found a ridge line to make all the difference in the world for sleeping. Not sure which ENO you have, but the magic 83% does wonders for me in my SN, and a longer approx. 90% feels better on my DN. I use dynaglide with fixed loops on each end and just loop it over my suspension. Super easy and works really well.

You can use your hiking poles or a stick to move the straps higher up the tree. Good luck with the yotes.

I was thinking I could get some nylon rope(thin) and before I synch down my strap on the tree I throw this rope in between the strap and the tree… Doing so I may be able to pull the string the opposite direction of the strap and release the tension…

I get mine down the same way I put them up...using my hiking sticks.

It's not that I like to hang high, it's just that I'm short....

I push them up the tree by using the pointy end of my hiking pole and I can get it in the loop and give a little tug that will loosen them off enough that they'll slide down the tree on me.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions… I'm 6'-4"… I learned this weekend I don't have to get into me ENO like a regular hammock like I'm use to… I stand in the middle of it and lock the material around my forearms lean forward and kick my leg into the hammock and hoist myself up… Once your facing the ground face down you simply turn and BAMMM your right side up in your hammock… So that being said I've been seeing how high I can go and thats why I want to make sure I have a way to get my straps down once my 260lb frame makes them tight around the tree. : )

Remember the golden rule of hammocks....never hang higher than you're willing to fall...

Have you had experience with coyotes bothering you before? I've camped in areas with coyotes quite a bit and never had a problem. Generally, they avoid humans, even avoiding something that simply smells like a human. As long as I am careful about food smells, I've never had them bother me in my camp.
