Hello everybody,
as far as I did understand it, the dutch buckle was invented as an improvement for a simple marlin spike and is for use with whoopie slings. The webbing strap ist fixed with the buckle to the anchor (tree or such), the whoopie sling is used to adjust the length of the suspension.
Now I saw the marlin-spike-trick also to adjust the lenght of the webbing (and thus the whole suspension) on a hammock with fixed slings (or loops). The webbing (a simple tension belt) was fixed on a tree simply by giving it two turns round the trunk and leeding it through the eye where originally was the fastener (that was demounted). The guy had only that ex tension belt whith its (sewed) fixed eye and a wooden stick.
I'd like to change the stick for a dutch buckle and use this to adjust the length of the webbing strap: is that possible/does anyone here do that? Are there any problems in convenience or (a real matter) safety?
kind regards
waldi
