Best suspension option for the money/weight?

    Hi all,

I'm new to hammocking, and I've been trying to figure out what hammock suspension system would give me the best bang-for-the-buck as far as weight/compactness & ease of use VS price. From what I can tell, there are dozens of different set ups, so I would like to know what you guys think, and maybe why you chose the current setup that you are using now. Thanks!

Whoopie slings and tree straps are my favorite. Very light, and easy enough to use.

Cinch buckles are the easiest to use, and insures you'll never leave a tree strap on the tree when packing.

I like straps and rings best. They are slightly bulkier and heavier than a whoopie set up but for me at least they are much easier to adjust. Whoopies have more components and are more fussy. A lot of people prefer whoopies and so I assume the difficulties I have experienced are overcome with sufficient practice.

Welcome to hammock forums! My personal favorite suspension is whoopie slings and straps with a marlin spike hitch toggle. Really light, takes up very little space, very easy to DIY, extremely easy to use. I've used lots of other suspensions but always go back to the whoopie slings!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Whoopies and tree strap here. They are undoubtedly the lightest but a bit more finicky to set up. Cost will probably be about the same.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

I am using the whoopie, tree strap (one loop), and MSH system. I bought this pre-made, but if you research a bit you can DIY for less and its fun to do. I would like to try other options too just for the tinker factor.

+1 on whoppie slings, straps and MSH (Marlin Spike Hitch).
