I'm hopefully going to replace the line on my GID zipper pulls with glo cord, just for starters.

I contacted David at the site, and he said if you order something, they send samples of other stuff with your order. Nice guy, very helpful. I will soon have something pretty cool to show off.

I had the company send me some samples of their line. Excellent customer service, by the way. Nice stuff, but the smallest diameter for the non-stretch lines is 3/8", and the kernmantle static is 7/16". The nylon ropes come in smaller diameter, but have a 30% stretch possibility. Not good for hanging a hammock. And the non-stretch is pretty large, more on the size of the Clark's ropes. The two polypro rescue ropes are really light, and both float and are hydrophobic. If they had it in 1/4", I'd be buying a lot of it. Man, does this stuff glow! I purchased some of the 1/16" cave rope for guy lines and zipper pulls - I'll post results when it comes in.

Hey fin, have you tested the glo rope outside? I was wondering about the bug attracting power of glowing ropes or fabric?

link to info on charging the GID products

I did a bit of searching on this subject and found that strontium aluminate (the main component for most high performance GID stuff) produces light in the 400-520nm range (depending on the formula of the GID, and not the whole range, just wavelengths inbetween). Bugs are attracted to light in the 300-650nm range, peaking at 350nm and 500nm.
The GID stuff might attract some species of insects, but a very small range of them. You will have more surrounding your headlamp than the GID stuff.

Mosquitoes are attracted by C02 and pheromones produced in sweat. The GID shouldn't have any effect on them either way.

    Fin,
If you decide to test it out, I'd be interested to hear the results.

I have the 1/16" on order - should be here in a couple of days. I'm not sure yet on the other ropes they have - it just seems like overkill when you are used to using Amsteel for your suspension. Maybe on the Clark, because I'd be going apples to GID apples with the line dimensions there.
