    Replacing ridgeline on Thunderbird

I recently purchased a Thunderbird from a fellow hanger that needed a little wider hammock than the 62" Thunderbird he sold me. I love the hammock design and applaud Randy and company for their attention to detail. Being a stout person, I have to use the ridgeline sometimes to help me sit up in the hammock so that I can get out. I am thinking about changing the ridgeline to 7/64 amsteel from the one that comes with the thunderbird. I just don't want to know if I am making a mistake to not leave what Randy put in there or should I go ahead and change it out.

Shoot Randy (Papasmurf) an email. He would give you step by step directions if needed.

he uses 2.2mm lash-it...that's still pretty darn strong stuff. i think you'd be ok just leaving it as is.

I pull myself up with the ridgeline from my Thunderbird, weight 300+ pounds.

I am in the same boat as you landjustin. I am just worried about it over a period of time. I cannot complain about the quality of the Thunderbird. I was using a Kammok Roo which is 10' X 5'7" and now I have my Thunderbird which is 11' X 5'2". I can definitely tell the difference between the two. I was comfortable in my Roo, but the Thunderbird slept like a "Dream Hammock". I am going to keep my Roo as a backup for if a scout wants to use it on one of our campouts. I can honestly say that the Thunderbird is worth every dollar I spent. I will probably buy another one for my son later on. He uses his DIY that Junebug Dawn made and has told me to sell his ENO singlenest. I told him it will be passed on to a scout who wants to go hammock camping, but can't afford to get a hammock.

In my opinion if it breaks I usually have enough extra cordage with me to make a new one on the spot
