    Spinning and Rolling

Each time I have slept in my Hennesey Hammock (expedition) I end up rolling into the screen/floor as if sleeping in a sack. Apparently the hammock (or, I) roll so that the floor ends up above me or on the side. How can I prevent this from happening? I do use the side tie-outs, but they are apparently not taut enough to keep the hammock from rolling.

Best first guess is that your setting up the hammock to tightly so that there is not enough sag. Ignore the directions from HH, they will tell you to set up very tightly. Instead shoot for your suspension lines to come down from the tree at about 30 degrees. This will help the "bed" of the hammock to drop into a more comfortable position and you to settle down lower in the hammock making it less likely for you to roll over so far at night.

Definitely got to be stretched too tight. A properly set up hammock takes great effort to roll. Stick out your index finger parallel to the ground and then cock your thumb (like a pistol). Your suspension lines should just touch both the tip of your finger and tip of your thumb, when the finger is level with the ground. (that's 30 degrees)

"Cook your thumb". What's this world coming to. "pew pew pew" got you.

If your suspension is correct and your still rolling, tell your family to stop it. OK, I'm sorry and I'm done.

Check your suspension angle, then make sure your at a diagonal to the hammock, not in line. This will also help with the stability.

Watch Shugs video's. He has a review for hammocks that show him trying to roll a hammock. Not the same kind, but the same principle. It should be hard to do.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I gotta agree with the posters who believe you are hanging the hammock too tightly.

Hennessey directions are what I initially followed, and they say to stretch tightly. But I now follow the 30 degree from horizontal angle for my suspension lines, and I am a much happier camper.

BTW, I bought a set of buckles & straps from Paul Gibson at Arrowhead Equipment and converted the Hennessey from the rope system. MUCH easier to fine-tune your hanging angle instead of fiddling with rope hitches.

    Thank you.

Thank you for the helpful replies. My understanding was that an ASYM hammock got slung tight to keep the "floor" rigid to provide a good sleeping platform. In fact, I thought that was kind of the whole point. I was told drooping hammocks caused back pain. I will adjust the straps in accordance with the advice here and try it out.

To avoid the back pain of the banana shape don't forget to lay on a diagonal for a flat comfy experience. Upper body to the left and lower body to the right of center or the other way around if it's comfy for ya. YMMV
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
