    Art Loeb, dumb question

I was planning to do Art Loeb soon with a friend. Friend had to cancel. My worry wart friends/family are scared of me going that far alone. Anyone done this trail? Was there any cell phone coverage? In case it matters I have verizon. As always, thanks!

Are you comfortable going solo? If you arent that might be a red flag as to your confidence/skill level. Then again, its an adventure! Which end are you starting from?
Art Loeb is awesome and a great trail. Verizon is good but probably wont get much coverage until you get near the top. Plenty of water,, wish I could go too : )

I say, I say try a solo trip. If you leave from 276 Davidson River there is another trail-head and still the Blue Ridge Parkway if you need to bail out.
Just be prudent and vigilant ... have a out-plan in your head and have fun, fun, fun.

I remember my first solo .... never one like your first!
Once I found that solo was so fun and NOT lonesome ... I started inviting pals on trips and instead of having to schedule to their time I would just inform them when I was going and said "C'mon".
I too was cancelled on to many times.

Sorry ... don't know about cell service there. My AT&T never works where I go.

Solo is how I usually go but not for this long. I have no fear, just friends and family with that. Planning to start at boy scout camp so I can camp at Davidson River campground until my ride comes.

yeah, my wife always says, "go..have a good time", makes me wonder how much life insurance she has out on me.

SHUG! you led me to a paradigm shift......

Just plan the trip, invite the chosen ones, and go.....they either make it happen or they don't ...in the end at least you know you are going to sleep in the woods in a hammock for a few days.....

    brilliant.

I carry lots of life insurance. It definitely makes it easier to get the OK from the misses.

I did the Art Loeb from Davidson north last month, and I use hammock also. There was very little water south of Pilot Mtn and that was quite a climb! Phone coverage was ok, using Verizon also, especially on the ridges and peaks. The gnats were terrible and my bare feet in the evenings got eaten up. Once you are across the Blue Ridge Parkway there are some beautiful vistas. I did the hike during the week, not many people except for a large group at the first shelter going north (Butter Gap?).
