So I first took delight in a hammock when I was 18. I was working as a derrick hand on a monster triple for Nabors drilling. My cross shift left a rope set up on the Chinese side of the monkey board up the derrick. It was one inch soft line woven back and forth three times from handrail to handrail so six strands with a few pieces of sash cord in the middle to keep it gathered. -40 160 feet up in full arctic gear, so comfy... feet up but no side lay here. I used that same system for 10 years on different rigs
I also had one ( mec singlenest type) hung corner to corner in my dodge diesel with a contractor grade aluminium topper. I used it for dirt bagging and powder hounding. All it required was a thermal rest and a sleeping bag / now a 4 piece sleep system usgi. I use the whole thing then turn it sideways unzipped stuff down the sides and I am good to - 25C. With the wings cracked and a gasifier stove burning hard wood pellets I can hang in a t shirt comfy and no Co gas registering on the monitor in the same -25C but the temp holds steady at plus 10C inside. fwiw when I am in it I have 4 inches clearance to the truck bed.
