    Issues with Arrows and straps???

Hey guys....and anyone had any issues with your arrows failing with your straps using them in a Whoopie type system?....Fathers day we went to a state park for the afternoon and was hanging.....and had epic FAIL....the arrow just broke in half....cut my strap....and I ended up hard on the ground!!!!

the other night my daughter and I were setting up our hammocks in my shop about 10 PM (adding a ridgeline to her Grand Truck) and I took my hammock down to hang hers and saw my arrow was crimped and kinda twisted..... almost ended up on the ground again!!!!!....

ok....I know I need to lose some weight...215lb @5'7" but am I too heavy to use arrows.....do I bee to switch to a dowel to piece of steel???

these arrows I cut myself from some of my arrows...maybe too short?....they were about 3.5 or 4"....maybe too thin?....I think they were 2215's

    anyone else ran into this???

    Thanks....Athens

Are you making sure that your whoopie sling is on the knot not the toggle? That's very important. And are your arrows carbon fiber or aluminum? Carbon fiber may not be strong enough since all of it's strength is in lengthwise compression. Aluminum will be stronger, although I weigh 195 and hang on carbon fiber arrows with no problems.

CF arrows are iffy (IMHO). Stress cracks can develop, depending on the cuts made to length. Dowels work great and you can get them in different thickness.

Maybe post a close up of how you're using them, for a quick members check. If all looks good, I doubt a thicker aluminum diameter/wall would add significant strength to the application, so a thick hardwood dowel might be in order.

It shouldn't be a problem. As requested, photos would be helpful.

A photo of your suspension set up clearly showing the placement of the whoopie sling on the knot/toggle is what would help identify the problem.

I also had a near fall with a carbon fiber arrow shaft. it was bent and cracked, yet it did not let me hit the ground. make sure that when you put the toggle in, the straps are not twisted and bunched up, this causes the compressing force to be focused on a small area. instead, make sure the straps are spread wide on the toggle to spread the compression among more surface area of the toggle. this is most likely the cause of what your experiencing, as i have done the same!

also instead of being too short, maybe they were too long, the cf shafts i use are about 2.5" long. just a thought.
