I used to use aluminum arrow shafts for toggles, but retired them in favor of hardware store pipe fittings. See this old thread, and post #11 for pictures.

Why not just use sticks? I just pick one up off the ground and break it to size. One less thing to carry. Just throw it back on the ground after, no worries of losing it because I don't keep it.

I rarely use MSH anymore but wondered it anyone has put a snuggly fitting wooden dowel into their hollow aluminum or CF spike just in case the cord slips off the knot and onto the spike instead. I.e. a Marlin Spike Glitch (MSG). OH! I use MSH for a lot of other applications but just not hammock suspension.
