    Storable Hammock Stand?

I've been watching the thread on the www.hammocks.com hammock stand brackets and thinking that would be a very reasonably priced solution...BUT... In my situation I need a hammock stand that disassembles for storage. If I used shims to keep things stable as suggested in the other thread, then I would lose the ability for easy disassembly and storage.

I'd welcome any thoughts or suggestions about how to resolve this seeming conflict. Or alternative products that can be disassembled for reasonable storage.

    Would something like this work?

I have been very happy with the tubing stands like what Ed Speer and the Jacks use at Trail Days. Just threaded steel pipe and some fittings. It will cost you about $140 per stand, but they are very easy to put up and take down. Bring a pipe wrench!!!

One of the sections I did not post on my vid has to do with the process of shims. If you use a smaller first shim and leave sufficient length on the second shim you can dislodge the shims and release the tension on the post. Also the use of only one shim in each socket would make it easier to release the tension and remove the posts from the socket for storage.

Additionally the use of only one shim inserted narrow end first and driven in would provide some stability for the posts. In that case you would wear out the shims faster, but given the fact that you are looking for storage capability it might be worth the tradeoffs.

The horizontal sockets would be much more important to the overall stability of the stand. They could be shimmed as shown and the posts could be removed. I did not try the stand without any shims in the posts, but the thought occurs to me if you were tension the posts with an adjustable ridgeline you might achieve reasonable stability without the use of more permanent shim as shown in my video.

Please report the results of these ideas if you decide to try them.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Your search-fu is weak, young padawan..

I believe this is what you seek. Those really are very sturdy and highly portable when disassembled.

That's why I was practicing on the Jet Boil Recall thread.
Yep! Those be the directions I used. They are quite stable and very portable. I used two of them at the Get Outdoors Day event and had lots of folks in and out; no problems.

I don't have a Vario stand, so I don't know. I do know that it isn't real light. I wouldn't want to carry it very far. It's biggest plus is the fact that it breaks down pretty small. I could fit several dozen of them in the back of my TrailBlazer if they are disassembled.

Course, I'd need a new suspension on my truck afterward.
