Help with a DIY side by side design.

I'm looking to DIY a side by side hammock similar to a Clark Vertex for the once or twice I year I go camping with families with small children. I have all the love and respect for Clark Jungle Hammocks, but I can't justify dropping those kinds of funds on a hammock that's going to sit in a closet for 360 nights a year.

Looking specifically for a design that allows the side by side in 1 net.

    Any pointers?

Right after Adam finished making his first DIY hammock, along comes Eve! Adam then asked himself the same question that you just did. Obviously, it's not going to be easy!

I'll watch this thread as the concept intrigues me as one option inside the van. I think if one were to guy the sides or corners it would be a doable design. I can imagine if one gets out the other will be on the ground. And then what about any disparity in weight on sides? so guy outs might solve things?

    Watching.

I don't have experience, but I have read of other experiences on HF of using guyouts to control the weight displacement of a double hammock. My understanding is there is significant force involved, necessitating the need for very large stakes. I don't think its impossible, just might not be very practical unless you are not concerned about weight.

My wife and I hang together in a 90"x156" gathered end from http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/category-s/149.htm. Granted we only read, nap, and just hang around in it together we would never dream of sleeping the whole night in it as we both toss and turn. Also we are hanging where we can look at each other, heads on opposite ends, but it might lend itself to becoming a single sided bridge like the Clark you are looking at. Just something you might look into, as it is cheap and would make a good starting point to test from.
Hammocking, car camping, backpacking, kayaking, and mountain biking. Getting in touch with nature is getting expensive. Good thing I can DIY!
