    UQ..finally

I'm going to finally get the UQ. I've had success with pads, but I move around too much. Been looking at all the options and it seems like theres more out there than there was just a couple years ago the last time I looked. I can only get one, but I camp year round. I'm guessing in the summer I'll rig a PLUQ, so I need one that will see 30-50 degree range. Do you have a go-to UQ that you use year round? I'm a little lost with all the choices.

I'd get a 20º for all-round all year use. You can vent easily enough.
All the vendors make great stuff.

I'm of the opinion you either buy the least expensive quality piece, or the best of the best (within reason)

For example the Jarbridge by Arrow Head Equipment is only $100, easily the cheapest. But it is also a quality piece of construction, weighs ~20 ounces (less than my PLUQ) and is plenty warm (I think the rating is a very conservative 30*).

On the other end you have the down quilts for more than double the price, about the same weight (give or take an ounce) and much warmer. For example the Incubator 20 by Hammock Gear is 22 ounces, a very conservative 20* rating, and costs $249.

I'd figure out your price range and decide which you want more, both are great (and there are many other great ones) but the $150 difference may be the biggest deciding factor.

Having made one myself, I personally wouldn't bother with a PLUQ if you plan on getting a quality quilt. The PLUQ has been relegated to staying in my car with the hammock I don't care about in case I randomly decide I want to hang but I rarely use it since getting a quality quilt. But that's me, HYOH.

If your going to compare quilts you should compare like to like. The Jarbridge is a 3/4 quilt while the Incubator is full length. A better comparison would be to the Pheonix 20 - 16oz for $200.

Also keep in mind the temp rating difference - 10*F is significant. If you plan to camp near the limit of your under quilt make sure you have a way to block any wind also, or you will be cold.

The packability facor can be a concern too. A down under quilt will pack much smaller - leaving room for other items, or the option to use a smaller, lighter pack.

Choosing an underquilt is all about evaluating your needs, wants, and working within your budget. But rest assured any quilt from any vendor on here will be a quality product.

Just for clarity's sake, I wasn't comparing the quilts so much as what you get at the extremes of the cost range.

Ah, I see what you were saying.

And reading my message it might have sounded critical of you. I apologies, my intent was just to provide information. I probably could have worded it better.
