    Itinerary for group hangs

Hello folks, I am a complete newbie here. I kinda feel like I might be asking a dumb questions since I am so green at this. What is it like? I am thinking maybe show and tells? Maybe things like knot clinics? Cooking clinics?

I am definitely looking forward to one day going to one.

Oh, does anyone have pictures from some group hangs?

Thanks for all the great advice I have been reading on here.

Every hang is different. Some are highly organized, with scheduled activities, and others are little more than a group of friends camping together.

I can't speak for any others beyond the one I organize in Texas each fall but here is how we do it…

The hang is officially Fri-Sun but there are usually some early arrivals on Thurs and occasionally some who stay through Monday.

We have dispersed camping at a number of sites in a state park with one site as the designated group campfire area.

Everyone is on their own for the most part Friday and Sunday and we have some group oriented stuff on Saturday. When we have our act together we have a message board posting any activities scheduled for specific times.

Our Saturday starts out with breakfast tacos at my site for anyone who is hungry and then during the day there is informal show and tell throughout the event along with the occasional planned activity. Some go for hikes, others paddle, naps are always my friend...

Some of what we've done include:
    short hikes learning about edibles,
    fire by friction lesson,
    cozy making,
splicing and whoopie sling construction, (sometimes we do an amsteel group buy),
    long bow construction,
    knife sharpening,
there is usually a gear swap/for sale area,
    etc.

Saturday evening we have a pot luck dinner that is usually a huge feast and then after dinner a big camp fire. In the past we have had a Saturday night drawing for "door prizes" with items ranging from alcohol stoves to hammocks and tarps, (some generously donated by vendors and others by participants.)

The spontaneous conversations and new friends met along with reunions with old friends are what make the hang special to me.

In my signature there is a link to the calendar and I think to past group hangs for pictures and such.

Looking back to last year to reminisce and forward to post Covid-19 hangs in 2021

A little of both as stated above. The Florida Annual is an amazing amount of planning, the Sherpa is almost the same only smaller. All of our others are just friends being in the woods together.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Being in Pensacola will afford you a variety of group hangs from several states. From Florida, your not to far from the Annual Florida Hang in January on MLK weekend. It's the biggest around with 100+ hangers from many states including Michigan.

Your also within reach of large group hangs in GA and TX. I believe the bayous will afford you a wonderful group hang as well. Check out the Forum for trip planning in SE. There is a MS hang being put together right now. And the fall hang in AL.

There will usually be info stating if there is scheduled activities. It's just to see what materials and how much would be needed. Or you can do your own thing. It's nice to have options.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

All the hangs I go to whether its in the backcountry or at a car camp ground are very informal. It ends up being like a cocktail party where you kind of wander to different groups of people either chatting while cooking or chatting about hammock set ups. Some people come and go to do their own thing like take pictures or fish or hike etc. Night time is always about gathering around the fire since it is in our DNA.

Here is a link for the trip report to last January's Annual Florida hang in Ocala National forest. This was the 4th annual hang for Florida. 100 attendees!

That sounds like a great time uncle mjm, I grew up in lumberton Texas, still have lots of family there. My son and I take a trip every year to lake sam rayburn. Can't wait to bring my hammock on the next trip there and hang out by the lake.
