I see over 50 folks have looked at your post but no answers. Just to start, my pod style sock is 72" (outside diameter) at the shoulders and provides ample room (TQ/UQ are inside my pod style sock thus filling it up with insulation for warmth retension). P.S. I don't camp below 20F as a personal preference.
I'd be interested in BillyBob or some other peapod user inputs. I really like a pod for winter camping and just might have to make one next winter.

I dont have a pea pod I purchased as a pea pod. I use a cheap walmart rectangular bag and I have pulled the seam in the corner where the zipper is. I can then fold it over my suspension and rezip. I then pull it up. A few issues. As I am 6 1 260 it doesnt go all the way and over night it can slip down. Either one is not a huge issue because I sleep hot. I have slept under 20 with this and my uq and sleeping bag as a tq. It is not the roomyist, but not as cramped either. I bet 6 inches more and I would be set. Some day I may actually be able to afford to buy enough of the right gear to not have these issues. I bet with the proper temp rating uqtq I wouldnt need the pod. Maybe a sock.
Just looking thru Coleman sleeping bag specs, I see they are 33" wide or 66" outside diameter and the Speer pea pods are 6 foot diameter (=72").
So, based on this a 72" OD with a couple inches of insulation inside is probably a decent number to plan a pod on (I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs.) or add a few inches if you are significantly bigger.

I don't know the dimensions of the peapod or polar pod, but I used my polar pod over my snugfit and a tq at 14* laxt winter, and I was as snug as a bug in a rug. Love the peapods.
