That wasn't me snoring... It was Reggie! You can ask him, he won't deny it.

Looking like it's gonna be another great turnout. Looking forward to seeing some old friends and making some new ones.

    So speaking of kayaks…

It looks like the decision has been made for our family...

I'm glad to hear it was Reggie. Usually I'm the one sawing lumber under the tarp at night.

This year we are bringing something new to our site… critters. So "Starla" and "Florence" will get to share the blame with Reggie.

And finally as for the turnout…

It does look like a good crowd. According to the spreadsheet count total we are at 107, but that number does not take into account those who had something other than a number in the column, (e.g. "2 maybe 3", +?, etc.). If we add those along with some folks who've indicated that they may be coming but are not on the planning sheet yet, the real count at this point looks closer to 120. Good thing there are a lot of trees out there.

Howdy Wasp! Glad you found your way to this conversation. Are you planning on joining us? If so, please add yourself to our planning spreadsheet, (link in the first post).

As for the burn ban, I don't think it would be part of our annual planning without that to consider. In fact the only times we were not sweating a ban was in 2009 and last year. In 2010 and 2011 it was lifted the first week in November and in 2012 it was lifted in mid October. Usually September and October rains wash out the area bans so thankfully we have not had one during this event since we started it 6 years ago.

Even if there is a ban, the parks historically have had no problem with camp stoves and in some cases they have allowed charcoal. The downer for us would be campfires but even that has a way of working itself out.

In short, pray for rain, don't worry about the ban until the first week in November at which time we make a run on the stores for the marked downs of Halloween glow sticks.

    One more thing...

Here is a link to the state burn ban tracking map for those who like to track such things. The bad news is the map is never as current as the individual County Commissioner's Courts, (Fairfield is in Freestone County), so while it's a tool, it's not the final answer. It makes good sense for anyone camping in Texas at a state park to call before heading out to verify the burn ban status. Now that I've written that, let's not deluge the people at Fairfield with all of us calling the week before the hang. Several of us will monitor it and when it gets close we'll update this thread to save some phone calls and searching headaches. For those heading out to Fairfield in the next few days or so, there is a burn ban as Wasp mentioned, even though I couldn't find it on the park's web page. I verified with the park that the ban does not currently restrict the use of camp stoves or charcoal in the camp grills.

As of right now it's going to have to be a maybe for me. I gotta make sure I can get the time off from work before I can be for sure. It sounds like a blast I would love to make it if I can.
