After a lot of deliberation between using a tarp/pad/bivy (again) or the Warbonnet for my second Long Trail End-to-End, I'm now strongly in favor of the hammock. Since I'll nave no pad, it will rule out using shelters this time... even in very bad weather. Until this hike, I've never used a hammock for more than a few hiking days at a time. With the Warbonnet I'm gaining so much comfort I feel that I just can't pass it up. I'm taking my single 1.7 instead of my double so that I can save the extra weight. Leaving August 10th and will try to drop a line or two as I progress from Quebec down Vermont's Green Mountain spine to Massachusetts.

Oh, am I jealous! Will you be able to attend the Long Trail Festival in Rutland? It is sometime in mid-August. I was there last year and had a blast.

Hi... I briefly met you last year at the festival. In 2007 I missed it while on the LT and this year will be deep in the northern mountains while it is in progress. I'll just concentrate on the trail this year.

Quoddy, that's so cool. You seem to be the type of guy that doesn't want to carry any gear weight that truly does not carry its own weight on the trail. (if that makes sense,

It's 280 miles from the access point to the exit point... 273 miles of official trail. With the difficulty in the northern half I plan to enjoy the hike and average 8 or 9 miles per day there and about 12 to 14 in the south. I discovered last night that family members have set up something very important in New Jersey right at my expected completion, which I must attend. Now I can't slow down, even if I wanted to, so it'll be between 25 and 28 days. Resupplies are set up a approximately 5 day intervals.

Knowing the difficulty in the north from the last northbound End to End, I'm trying to set up reasonable distances there on this southbound hike. Southbound it'll be a tough hike, particularly from day 6 through 14.

Was just in Manchester, VT and got to day hike a bit on the LT/AT there. Very Vermonty!!!!
