    Charlotte NC

I just started my love for hammocks about a month ago. I was at my brother in law's bachelor party when I saw his hammock laying in the corner. After a drunken night in a bug free hammock I was hooked. I just bought my first hammock and chose the Eno Doublenest. I went camping last weekend and enjoyed hanging with my son. I decided I need more gear to solely hammock camp. I just made my own hex tarp yesterday. I took my several hours with my moms portable sewing machine but it turned out great thanks to the forum. I decided to use an old blue tarp to test my skills. I made my suspension for each point to give it flex in the wind. I will post pictures once I get out to the park. Looking for anyone in Charlotte that knows good spots to chill.

    Welcome from Philly.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.

Welcome from just across the state line. You're in C'cord, for an afternoon hang try Sherman Branch mtb trails, got a creek, a pond and some interesting trail features you maybe able to catch some carnage from a properly positioned hammock, gates are locked nightly. Try Kings Mountain National park for a overnight, camp spot ~4 mi. from trailhead, 10+ mile loop with side trails creeks ponds and hills. Camp TN Spencer is real local a 3 ponds and plenty of trees but limited trails but does have camp sites and a showers.

    Welcome to HF.
I've got some videos under my signature of places in NC.
The closest to us is probably Crowders Mtn to the west or Uwharrie to the east.

Nice job on making your own tarp.

Good to see another NC recruit. I agree with TallPaul, Crowders is probably your best close bet. I've hung there several times. Linville Gorge is is only about 2 hours away and worth every minute of the drive to get there.
