Dumb -- so now what do I do?

Set out tonight -- maybe 4 hours ago -- to seam seal the pullouts on my new Superfly tarp. Wasn't paying attention (despite reading lots of threads on this), and I used Seam Grip rather than silnet or other recommended products. It just dawned on me what I'd done.

I just sealed the insides of the pull-outs, and applied the Seam Grip to where the seams go through the inside grosgrain. Very little went on the tarp fabric itself. I assume that's the right way -- never seam sealed a tarp before.

    So, my questions:

    1) Is what I did going to effectively seal the seams?

    2) If not, what the h**l do I do now? Can I just apply silnet over the Seam Grip?

You could wipe it out with mineral spirits. Silnylon need silent or silicone mixed with mineral spirits.
    Go gently.

I would imagine, maybe someone else will correct me, that the seamgrip will stick fine to the grosgrain. Whatever is on the tarp material will probably just peel off when dry. Then I would retreat those areas with silnet; not sure if it will stick to the seamgrip or not.... I guess we will find out!

Let it dry. It will peel off in time though will seal for a while and when it does come away you can pull as much off as you can before applying your Silnet. At least you realised before you did the big one!

I think Seamgrip uses something really agressive like toluene as a solvent so mineral spirits won't touch it. Acetone probably will when it is still wet but I'd be very careful before applying that to my tarp.

So, would it make sense (if not being pretty) to just do silnet on the outside seams in the grosgrain? Sorta doubling up, and avoiding trying to get the Seam Grip off the inside while still getting the seams sealed properly?

Or in general are you trying to get the silnet BETWEEN the grosgrain and the tarp material? Not sure if I'm making sense -- I think how the Superfly pullouts are sewn has changed over time.

+1. Since you already sealed it, why not just use a garden hose to see if it leaks? Then you'll know for sure.
