Got back Sunday from leading 9 Boy Scouts and 2 other adults in a kayak trip around Fidalgo Island, WA. Everyone was hanging.
Quick location notes:
Hope Island: Plenty of trees. You can hang in and around the 3-4 camp sites. I'd avoid this island in the summer. One of the worst mosquito situations we've come across.
Burrows Island: There are a few Cascade Marine Trail sites. We scouted the Island and it was reported that there were likely enough trees for all of us. Would suggest staying here and using Washington Park as a water stop/shower stop.
Washington Park, Anacortes: Large car-camping campground up the hill. Not ideal for kayaks. There were enough trees once we spread out to 3 sites. Bring some long straps for a few of them. The presence of hot showers ($0.75 per 2 minutes) was a benefit but I'd not suggest this as layover.
Cypress Head, Cypress Island: Gorgeous spot. Lots of trees. Really stands out as one of the best places we visited all week. You can also hike up on Cypress but beware: the Island has some serious elevation.
Saddleback Island: Small island with 5 campsites. Of which 3 probably have decent trees. We fit everyone in 3 of the sites.
We succeeded in having no ground-dwelling all week and getting our 50 miles in (largely in 4 days of paddling).
