Field Report New River UQ & Owyhee TQ

    Paul,

I ordered my 3 season New River UQ and Owyhee TQ on July 15th, 2014. I think little more than a week passed when they showed up on my doorstep. The outer color on both is red and the inner color is black. They are sharp looking and I can see my set-up very easily from a distance. Stealth is not a concern as these quilts will be primary for my wife and backups for me.

I field tested both this past week-end while visiting my son. The house was full of visiting relatives, so I brought along my Dream Hammock Thunderbird and my new Arrowhead Quilts. My hang spot involved a very large tree in the edge of the woods in the backyard, and one of the support beams on my granddaughter's swing set/jungle gym.

I was amazed at how simple the set up was for the New River. Granted, I paid particular attention to Paul's video on not over cinching the UQ so that would slide off the shoulder or whatever. I allowed enough room between the hammock and the UQ so that when I physically got in the hammock, it closed the gap between the two, thus eliminating any heat loss. I am also aware that it is July and that I may need some tweaking in November. The lows for this past week-end in Scituate, Massachusetts were in the low to mid-50's F.

The Owyhee TQ also was great. I actually had it off to my side for much of the night. After getting up at 2am or so for the inevitable walk to relieve myself, when I got back, I pulled the TQ over my chest and warmed up in an instant.

Follow the link for some pics of my set up.

The quality of both was impeccable. Thanks so much for your great customer service and your attention to detail. I will certainly be ordering more products from Arrowhead.

    All the best !

Nice Gil! I don't see any baffle stitching lines on the UQ. I want to check those quilts out the next time we hang.

The KAQ quilts have one big piece of APEX Climashield synthetic insulation - no baffles needed.

    Hi Chelsea,

As Doing said, there are no baffle lines. It's a different design than we're all used to seeing. At least what I'm used to seeing. In any event, they are very efficient and very effective. I figured I'd get a spare set of quilts for when I get Deb out into the piney woods. Hopefully sometime in August. If it turns out she doesn't go, I'll have a spare pair for one of the grandkids, etc...

Hope to see you soon. Hope all is well.

    All the best !

SemperFiGuy, I noticed you have a dream hammock, I've got a dream hammock thunderbird. I don't see you using the pack hooks in your pictures. Have you tried that? I'm curious because I'm trying to dial out an issue where there's a gap between my butt and the new river I have. I was looking at your pictures and it struck me the pack hooks might alter the hang of the quilt. What have you tried?
