Lake Jocassee/Toxaway River 4 Day Kayak Adventure

Trip took place from July 28-31st. Temp. lows 60,55,64. Temp. highs 89. My friend Greg and I started at Devils Fork boat access and headed across the big water to Double Springs. A little ways past DS we stopped and had lunch. After lunch we crossed the big water again to the shore on right side of us. The wind was blowing the whole trip to Toxaway. My new partial spray skirt did a good job with the waves. We paddled some more until we reached Laurel Fork. We paddled all the way to the falls. After checking the falls out we headed up the lake into the wind. After some miles we finally came to the entrance of Toxaway River. We had 3 more miles to go. Saw our first bald eagle on the way to Toxaway camping area. Beached the kayaks and looked for a camping area. Found a nice spot on Toxaway Creek that flows into Toxaway River. We fished in the mornings and evenings. Found nice swimming hole on Toxaway. Hiked a little on Foothills Trail. My friend Greg and I had hiked the FT some years Back. On Thursday morning we caught boat shuttle back to Devils Fork. On the way out we saw the bald eagles and the nest. The trip was great and we plan on doing it again. Maybe this October. I have link to my video. When my friend Greg finishes his I will put a link to his. His videos are good. He has a water proof camera I did not. On my video I did not take to much water stuff because of this. Thanks for looking. BigRed77

Looks like fun!. How long did it take you guys to paddle over from Devil's Fork? I'm considering doing the same at some point this fall. Did you have the wind with you or against you?

And whither then? I cannot say."

That lunch beach was gorgeous! It had a bit of a tropical look to it. Good job on the video!

It took us about 8 hrs. We stopped for lunch and checked out 2 waterfalls. Paddled into the wind most of time. BigRed77

Looks like a great time. It makes me homesick. I grew up in Walhalla and spent a lot of time on Jocassee.
