Well, I got interested in hammock camping a few months ago. Found this forum and decided to jump in. I am from Austin, Texas and just signed up for my first hang at Fairfield in November. Hopefully, by then I will know enough to not embarrass myself. I've got a Clark TX 250 with whoopies and dutch clips. Trying to show my son the advantages of hanging over tent camping. Hope to meet alot of good hangers that can show me the ropes.

Welcome from DFW! Pick up a copy of The Ultimate Hang, great resource. Ask away also (after a search).

Howdy and welcome to the trees!

Glad you'll be joining us at Fairfield!

Don't worry about embarrassing yourself, plenty of us who have done this a while do that all the time.

Group hangs are great places to meet people, learn about new gear, and learn more about how to use your own. There is another one this upcoming weekend you might want to check out too, called the Butt Bake. It is a backpacking trip but Friday night camping is at the trail head where folks can car camp and not everyone will be doing the o/n hike so consider it even though it's short notice.

Don't worry about trying to convince your son about the value of hammocks. Just bring him along and have him stay in the t#@t. That way your site selection is simple since you only have to worry about hanging one hammock. (Mine took a while to latch on to the hammock idea, but once he did, that tent went up for sale and he was all in.)

Don't be shy about asking questions there are a lot of great folks on here who would be happy to answer them.

Welcome from far West a Texas!

You've got some great parks close by. I camp out your way in April before the heat and humidity set in. You've discovered a great resource, welcome to the community.
